The CIC held its first Coalition in Conversation conference on Tuesday 1st October. More than 70 delegates from across the construction sector, working in a range of roles, participated in a full day of interactive presentations, Q&A sessions and workshops.
CIC Chair Angela Rushforth set out the agenda of the day and the objective of the Coalition: “There are good people in the industry but there are so many more good people the industry could have. We want to be game changers and build a truly inclusive industry.”
Speakers throughout the day included award-winning writer, director, and construction strategy specialist Sam Grierson, DEI and coaching director Melody Moore from Librare Consulting, and a conversation between Huws Gray CEO Daksh Gupta and Genuit Group talent director Karen Hughes, who all provided their perspective on affecting change within construction organisations and their workforce.
The afternoon included a number of breakout sessions that allowed delegates to discuss the agenda and workshop how to take the business case for improved EDI back to their own organisations.
As summed up by Daksh Gupta: “We need to build the platform that makes hiring women and minorities normal.”
